JUDGEMENT ON IKUFORIJI: PDP DEMOANING NATIONAL JUDICIAL SYSTEM – OLULADE

PRESS STATEMENT TUESDAY 14-10-2014

The Lagos State House of Assembly has bemoaned the Lagos Chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) over the statement credited to the party which faulted the Lagos High Court judgement of Friday September 26th that acquits the Hon Speaker of the money laundering charge instituted against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

In the statement issued by the spokesperson of the House Hon Segun Olulade,

the Lagos Assembly condemned PDP’s statement saying the party was chasing shadow over the judgement which vindicated Rt. Hon Adeyemi Ikuforiji after several years of baseless trials on a fictitious petition orchestrated to destabilise Lagos House of Assembly and indeed the Government of Lagos State.

The statement reads in part “The Peoples’ Democratic Party is in the habit of perpetually bemoaning judicial system by condemning any celebrated judgement believed not to be in favour its wish and interest”.

The Epe Constituency II representative who is also the Chairman of House Committee on Information, Strategy, Security and Publicity said PDP in Lagos State is not busy but rather pursuing a “no cause” mission in the State. He added that the recent statement of PDP over Ikuforiji shows that the party lacks focus, integrity and pursues no cause for its blind followers.

Hon Olulade noted that in spite of transitions and general elections around the corner, the party choses to be beating the ‘dead horse’ because it lacks definite programme of action and has no tangible thing to offer Lagosians. He however said he was not surprised that PDP is making huge efforts at reversing the hands of clock on Ikuforiji instead of accepting defeat over their odious expectations over the trial.

Olulade in his words said; “I am convinced that though the trial was stretched, but the truth prevailed in the end. Throughout the trial, Ikuforiji was never alleged for either stealing, embezzlement or siphoning of Lagos Assembly money, and the withdrawal above threshold allegation was proved beyond reasonable doubt as baseless leading to the dismiss of the case by the court. Not even PDP is mentioning any matter of stealing or embezzlement in its recent public statements but rather selling pieces of lies to people over the outcome of the judgement which is there for anybody to verify. PDP’s recent pronouncement over the judgement is empty as it failed to address any point rather than saying ‘it is a miscarriage of justice’ without bringing forth any evidence to that effect; hence the fact file on the trial is there for anyone to study if in doubt as to the actual contents of the judgement”.

“By the recent pronouncement from PDP, it is clear than the party is the evil instrument orchestrating the Ikuforiji trial, and this is nothing but wicked attempt to distabilise Government of Lagos. As a frustrated party, the PDP fails to reaslise that the judgement is victory for democracy and the 3 tiers of government considering institutional philosophy in administration and governance. Up till the present moment, Ikuforiji was not found guilty of any charge out of the 56 count charges levied against him; the landmark judgement is victory proving best practice in governance and leadership. We only hope the PDP, up to the federal level, will learn from the dynamism of this judgement in the school of fair politics”.

Olulade concluded that the Speaker is stronger ever than before and that the Lagos Assembly is not deterred or distracted about careless utterances of PDP in Lagos State over the judgement.

Signed:

Hon. Segun Olulade

Chairman, House Committee on Information, Strategy, Security and Publicity Lagos State House of Assembly
