Lagos State House of Assembly through the Public Accounts Committee has commenced the scrutiny of the Audited report of the state for year ended, December 2015.
Meanwhile, the state Government, yesterday commenced the demolition of about 18 buildings and structures on the Right of Way, RoW, along Iyana Oworoshoki axis of the state.
The measure, according to the state government, was aimed at resolving the perennial traffic gridlock along the area and by extension, the Third Mainland Bridge which has been nightmare for motorists and commuters. Commissioner for Transportation Dr. Dayo Mobereola, at briefing, said it was part of government’s efforts to resolve Iyana Oworoshoki/Third Mainland Bridge gridlock.
This came as the state Tasks force, comprising of Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development and Lands Bureau were seen in Iyana-Oworo area demolishing the marked structures. Moberoela, who spoke through the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Prince Anofi Elegushi, said, “You will recall that the axis driving from Lagos Business District, especially at peak periods is usually fraught with a lot of challenges with traffic usually held up for over three to four hours. This has prompted the Ministry to seek appropriate engineering solutions to the problem. You will recall that in the not too distant past we had visited the Oworonshoki Multiple Laybys created to remove traffic from the Expressway.
“This we agreed had impacted Traffic at peak period from Lagos towards Ikeja and Alapere. The travel time had significantly reduced to between 15 and 20 minutes. As part of effort aimed at totally ensuring the removal of traffic we will be constructing a slip road (an alternative parallel road) at Oduduwa Road. This road will run parallel to the Third Mainland bridge highway.
The road will carry traffic to Iyana Oworshoki Community and at the same time remove traffic caused by commercial yellow buses that pick passengers on the highway.”
