LASG empowers widows, vulnerable women

In pursuance of its vision to reduce poverty to a minimal level among the populace, Lagos State Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation has distributed various empowerment items like Grinding, Sewing/Whipping and Hair Dressing machines to over two thousand widows, vulnerable and unemployed women in the State.

Speaking at the Event, the Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr. Idiat
Oluranti Adebule who was represented by Permanent Secretary in her Office, Mrs. Yetunde Odejayi said the programme is part of the
dividend of democracy as promised by Governor Akinwunmi Ambode during his electioneering campaign.

She however rejoiced with the beneficiaries and urged them to continue to support and keep faith with the present administration in order to enjoy more benefits from the government.
In her own remarks, Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty
Alleviation, Hon. Lola Akande said catering for this group of women
i.e. widows, vulnerable and unemployed in the State is in line with
the Akinwunmi Ambode Administration‘s total commitment to eradicating poverty in all its forms amongst the citizens of the State and its major policy thrust of an All-Inclusive Governance.

According to her, the State Government provided the materials to women from all the 20 Local Government Councils and 37 Local Council Development Areas in the State to meet the challenges and demands of labour market and reduce the rate of unemployment in the State.

She noted that the Survival First Aid Kit was added to enable members of their families take care of themselves in the event of minor injuries resulting from domestic violence or minor accidents
particularly in rural homes in the State.

She commended Dangote Foundation for supporting the Ministry with 100 food items each of Dangote Sugar, Salt, Spaghetti, Danvitta and Wheat meal, urging beneficiaries to use the materials wisely in creating wealth for themselves.

Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Fausat Raimi thanked the State Government for empowering them economically and believed the gesture would improve their economic wellbeing.

She assured the State Government of their continued support and cooperation.
