Lagos State Government has applauded and acknowledged the role of labour unions in wealth creation, social harmony and economic progress in the State.
The State Head of Service, Mrs. Olabowale Ademola, who disclosed this today at the presentation of the first batch of new utility vehicles to the 16 Unions under the Lagos State Joint Public Service Negotiating Council, explained that the realization of these roles informed the State Government’s decision to adopt the policy of harmonious relationship with all trade unions in the State.
The HOS opined that the adoption of such harmonious relationship has indeed brought about peaceful government-labour relations, cooperation and collaboration in Lagos.
According to her, “The State Government acknowledges and appreciates the roles of labour unions in the State not only as a rallying point for workers but also as creators of wealth and partners in the strive for social harmony and economic progress.”
She pointed out that presentation of the new utility vehicles to the 16 Unions under the Lagos State Joint Public Service Negotiating Council was in furtherance of the policy of harmonious relationship with the unions and a fulfillment of the promise made by the State Governor to the Unions at the second quarterly meeting with the Joint Negotiating Council, (JNC).
While promising that the State Government would continue to ensure that industrial peace exists in Lagos, she urged workers in the State to reciprocate government’s gesture by renewing their dedication and commitment to duty through improved service delivery to the citizenry.
In her words, “I wish to assure you that Governor Akinwunmi Ambode will continue along this notable path so as to ensure continued industrial peace in the State. Let me add that to whom much is given, much is expected. Workers are therefore expected to reciprocate government’s gesture by renewing their dedication and commitment to duty through improved service delivery to the citizenry.”
