Continue to Promote Peaceful Coexistence – Dr. Abdul Hakeem Abdul Lateef

The Lagos State Commissioner for Home Affairs, Dr. Abdul Hakeem Abdul Lateef has urged the Governing Council of the Chapel of Christ The Light, the State Government’s interdenominational place of worship, to continue in its exemplary role of promoting peaceful co-existence and harmonious relationship among residents of the State.

The Commissioner, who gave the advice during the courtesy visit of the members of the Governing Council of the Church to his office at the State Secretariat, Alausa, urged them to always count on God as the only one who can faithfully reward for their labour of love.

According to him, “I want you to see yourselves as people who are working directly for God because government itself is an institution established by God. The Chapel should not be seen as a Government Property but as a place of Worship for all Christian faithful in the State. The fundamental aim of the State Government is to provide an enabling society for all religious bodies to express their freedom of worship”.

Dr. Abdul Lateef further explained that though the State Government has stopped State sponsorship of Pilgrimage in view of the economic situation of the country, it would not relent in providing enabling environment for all religious bodies to thrive and practice their religion.

While soliciting their support and assistance for the State Government through prayers in order to meet up with the aspiration of Lagosians, the Commissioner promised to look into developmental issues as it affect the church and address them, hopefully with a positive feedback by the first quarter of next year.

Responding, Reverend Canon Gbenga Solomon, Chairman of the Governing Council, Chapel of Christ the Light, on the behalf of his members thanked God, the State Government and the Ministry for the privilege to serve.
