“A BILL FOR A LAW TO PROVIDE FOR THE PROHIBITION OF THE ACT OF KIDNAPPING AND FOR CONNECTED PURPOSES.”
Highlights of the Bill:
*Kidnapping – forcibly takes, holds, abducts, detains, captures amongst others is liable for Life imprisonment.
Where death occurs as a result of kidnapping, the offender is liable on conviction to death sentence.
*Conspiracy – Where 2 or more conspire to commit the act of kidnapping, on conviction is liable to Twenty (20) years imprisonment.
*Attempt and threat to Kidnap – This upon conviction leads to life imprisonment.
A person who by means of a letter, e-mail, SMS, telephone call or any other method of communication with intent to kidnap upon conviction is liable to Twenty-five (25) years imprisonment.
*Faked Kidnap – Anyone who purposely faked his own Kidnap upon conviction is liable to Fourteen (14) years imprisonment.
Forfeiture of property – Any movable or immovable property used for or in connection with Kidnapping activities shall be forfeited to the Government of the State. e.t.c.
