The Chairman, House Committee on Health Services of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Segun Olulade has said that the Lake Rice initiative by Governor Akinwunmi Ambode has shown that he (Ambode) is committed to food security in the state.
Hon. Olulade who stated this in a statement issued on Wednesday, also commended the Governor for coming up with such initiative and making the rice available and affordable for every Lagosian.
The lawmaker, who is representing Epe Constituency II in the House of Assembly, noted that this gesture by Ambode will afford every Lagosian the opportunity to have a memorable and joyous Christmas with the slash in the price.
“It was in the news yesterday that the Federal Operations Unit, Ikeja, of the Nigeria Customs Service intercepted 102 bags of plastic rice branded ‘Beat Tomato Rice’ with no date of manufacture.
“This is becoming worrisome in the sense that some people somewhere are planning to make quick and dirty money. I don’t understand why human beings will decide to be callous to the extent of wanting to kill other people by giving them poison. It is just man’s inhumanity to man.
“With this Lake Rice in place and at N12,000 for 50kg bag, and N6,000 for 25kg bag, Lagosians can choose the one that will be suitable and affordable for them. Lagosians should be cautious and vigilant so as not to fall victim of the plastic rice, which has already flooded the market.
“Lake Rice will be available in every local government across the state, so Lagosians must take advantage of this opportunity and I am sure we will all have a joyous Christmas,” Olulade said in the statement.
The lawmaker also used the opportunity to wish Nigerians in general and Lagosians in particular a blissful Christmas celebration, praying that “God that has kept us to witness this Year’s Christmas celebration will provide for all our needs.
“The economic situation in the country may seem unpalatable but I believe that as we move gradually into Year 2017, this country will witness a turn-around. I wish every Nigerian a Merry Christmas and a prosperous and joyous New Year,” the statement added.
