LASEMA boss advises Lagosians on safety during festive seasons

Following the declaration of Monday and Tuesday, September 12 and13 as public holidays in celebration of Eid-Il-Kabir, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has advised Lagosians to be safety and security conscious during the period.

The General Manager, LASEMA, Mr. Michael Akindele gave the advice today in his Office, saying people should be safety conscious and vigilant by closely monitoring activities and identifying new faces around them in order to ensure the security and safety of lives and property of all Lagosians.

He also cautioned all motorists in the State to shun drink-driving and over-speeding by complying with traffic rules and regulations to avoid accidents, stressing that anyone caught committing any of these offences would be prosecuted by the appropriate authorities.

The General Manager denounced the negative notion that ember months (September to December) are usually characterized by major auto crashes, fire outbreaks and other tragedies, maintaining that these tragedies could be averted if only people had taken necessary precautions as these months are just like every other month of the year.

Akindele noted that the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Lagos State Fire and Safety Service, Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS), Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Nigerian Police Force, Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) and all the other agencies that are relevant in the management of emergencies in the State have been put on red alert to secure and protect the lives and properties of the people living and doing business in the State.

He reaffirmed the Agency’s readiness and commitment to the management of emergency/disaster in the State through prompt intervention and assured that the

Lagos State Emergency Call Centre lines 767/112 are open 24 hours for any distress call from all the nooks and crannies of the State.
