The Special Adviser to Governor Akinwunmi Ambode on Communities and Communication, Mr. Kehinde Bamigbetan has inaugurated the management committee saddled with the responsibility of managing and maintaining the 30 Community Halls across the State, just as he charged them to ensure continuous and optimal usage of the halls to prevent deterioration.
Speaking at the Adeyemi-Bero Auditorium, Alausa, Ikeja during the inauguration, Bamigbetan said the present administration is passionate about its vision of inclusive governance and sustainable infrastructural development, adding that the setting up of the committee was necessitated by gross abuse and misuse of the government infrastructure in various communities across the state.
The Special Adviser said the some of the community halls under the purview of the committee include Imota Community Hall, Imota, Idafa Itele Community Hall, Ikorodu North, Okeletu Community Hall, Ijede, Igbo- Agbowa Community Hall, Igbogbo- Bayeku, Aga Community Hall, Gberigbe Community hall and Mowo Nla Community Hall.
Others are Ikorodu Central, Ori-Okuta Community Hall and Isawo Community hall, Ikorodu West, Oglobo Community Hall and Apa Community Hall, Badagry West, Ita-Opo Community hall, Epe Itigbesa Community hall Ojo among others.
Bamigbetan reiterated that the Ministry shall continue to create and develop programmes and activities through the Community Development Associations (CDAs) and Community Development Committees CDCs) as well as harness all resources at its disposals towards improving the standard of living of the people at the grassroots in order to stem rural-urban drift.
He therefore implored all the Community CDAs and CDCs to partner with the State government in developing their areas by prioritizing their needs and coming up with meaningful requests that can reduce unemployment and poverty at the grassroots.
“The idea is not new but the present administration under the leadership of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode attached importance to the Community Development Associations (CDAs) as stated in his manifesto, adding that the community is the driving force of any stable and proactive Government.”
According to him, “the responsibilities of the committees is to see to the day to day running of the Community Halls and ensure continuous and optimal usage as well as maintenance of the Community Hall to prevent deterioration; to educate the Community members on the procedure for accessing the Community Halls and ensure continuous upgrade of the Hall; to cooperate with other members of the Community and ensure beautification that will add aesthetic value to the surroundings.”
Bamigbetan however appealed to all the stakeholders to give the committee the maximum support required for the success of the initiative for the overall benefit of the State.
Responding on behalf of the members of the committee, Mr. Rotimi Ayoku- Owolawi, thanked Governor Ambode for the confidence reposed in them to do the job and vowed that the committee will do everything to ensure the success of their given responsibility.
He however sought for the support and cooperation of the residents in the various communities, stressing that the task cannot be done alone.
