The commitment of the Lagos State Government, through the Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, was further confirmed at the 2016 Voice of Women (VOW) Awards held at the EKO Hotels and Suites, when it won VOW 2016 Best Government Organisation /Agency Supporting Women and their families.
The award was based on (public sector) Lagos State demonstration of highest level of gender empowerment through the programmes and policies of the government.
Receiving the Award on behalf of the State Government, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Mrs. Lola Akande noted that the Governor Akinwunmi Ambode led administration will not relent in its efforts to alleviate the suffering of Lagosians particularly women through its various interventions in the area of empowerment in the State.
The Ministry was nominated alongside the National Agency for the Prohibitions of Trafficking In Persons (NAPTIP) and Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, Abuja.
