New Structured Training Will Enthrone Merit in Staff Appraisal – Lagos HOS

Acting Lagos State Head of Service (HoS), Mrs. Folasade Adesoye has declared that the introduction of the new Structured Training Programme in place of written examination aspect of staff appraisal would enthrone merit and objectivity in staff assessment and promotion.

Adesoye, who spoke in Lagos at the briefing of eligible Officers for Y2017 promotion exercise, remarked that the new model of Structured Training has taken into cognizance the essence of effective Staff Evaluation and Advancement System which focus on meritorious performance and competitive knowledge.

“Permit me to add that in line with the vision of the present administration to ensure the enthronement of merit and objectivity in staff assessment and promotion, the new model was graciously approved by Governor Akinwunmi Ambode in furtherance of his quest for a more vibrant, efficient and proactive Public Service.

The model has taken into cognizance the essence of an effective Staff Evaluation and Advancement System which is focused on meritorious performance and competitive knowledge, she said.

The Acting HoS noted that the briefing was important as it was intended to further enlighten all eligible Officers, particularly, on the replacement of the hitherto written examination aspect of Staff Appraisal with the Structured Training Programme, which she said is in line with global Human Resource (HR) best practices.

Adesoye explained further that the policy review is also an affirmation that change is constant and inevitable, stressing that the need for Civil Servants to embrace the spirit of hard work, loyalty and total dedication to duty would not only make them better officers but also guarantee their career advancement in the emerging Lagos State Public Service.

“I, therefore, urge you to take full advantage of the structured training courses which are designed to update your knowledge on the job and encourage growth and professional development. And, as I usually say, the processes, procedures, approaches, practices and solutions with which yesterday’s issues and today’s problems were successfully tackled may be inadequate in addressing emerging challenges and tomorrow‘s needs in ever-changing world,” she said.

Recall that the Lagos State Government this year introduced Structured Training for promotion of eligible officers as against written examination used in the past for staff performance appraisal.
