As part of its continued effort at improving traffic on major highways and roads across the metropolis, the Lagos State Government has commissioned the multiple layby at the Iyana Oworoshoki by Car Wash Bus Stop.
Speaking at the commissioning of the Layby, the Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Transportation, Prince Anofiu Olanrewaju Elegushi said the move became necessary in order to remove the gridlock which has become a recurring decimal along the length of the 3rd Mainland Bridge due to the State’s population and increased vehicular traffic in recent times.
Elegushi stated that over the years conscious and deliberate steps have been taken by the State government, through the Ministry of Transportation and its agencies, to provide necessary road infrastructure which include the construction of new roads, rehabilitation of dilapidated ones, provision of Bus Shelters, laybys, lane marking, traffic signal lights, promotion of waterways, introduction of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) scheme, construction of Blue and Red lines rails among others.
He said the layby has to a large extent created some orderliness and reduced travel time which is a further testimony to the administrations’ commitment to congestion management and gridlock resolution, noting that the Car Wash Bus stop layby is designed to accommodate a minimum of 10 and maximum of 15 yellow commercial buses.
The Special adviser said the entire road infrastructure provided by the State Government is geared towards a reliable, efficient and sustainable system of transportation, stressing that the present administration is determined to continue to construct and rehabilitate roads, provide infrastructure and adopt best practices for the benefit of Lagosians.
He urged motorists to cooperate and support the State Government in ensuring that the facilities provided are used properly in order to ensure sanity on the roads and implored Lagosians to avoid using the facility for illegal activities.
