PRESS STATEMENT TUESDAY 06-11-2014
The Lagos State House of Assembly has called on Lagosians to take advantage of the coming distribution of Permanent Voters Card (PVC) to make change possible by ensuring they collect their PVC so they can be able to vote in the next general election in February 2015.
The call was made as INEC declared 7th to 9th November as days set aside to distribute permanent voters card to those who have previously registered during the last registration exercise.
The spokesperson of the House Hon Segun Olulade said that registration and collection of voter’s card is the power to make change possible as only those who are able to register will vote during elections. The Epe Constituency II representative said every Lagosians should rise up and register in the grace period to be declared by INEC so those who missed the exercise previously or have reached the age of 18 by now can register.
During his chat with journalists in Lagos yesterday, Olulade said in as much as everyone desires change, change does not come without power to vote in the democratic system. “We must all register and ensure we collect our permanent voters card as only power to drive away corruption, poverty, unemployment, insecurity and many vices plagueing our society today”.
While commending Governor Fashola for declaring Friday 7th November as work-free day to enable Lagosians participate extensively in the exercise, the lawmaker said there is grand plan by the PDP to seize Lagos by every means, and the plan is being orchestrated from the Federal, so all Lagosians must be alert and monitor the registration exercise in their respective neighbourhood so the rights to make decision at the poll can be protected without infringements.
Hon Segun Olulade also punctured the decline in the number of registered voters announced by INEC as a result of about 1.4 million potential voters missing on the INEC register for Lagos. He argued that with the current level of awareness in the state, Lagos State registered voters cannot be declining. He argued that voter’s registrations have always been on the geometric increase from time to time being a very versatile and progressive state.
He commended Lagosians for supporting the progressive party as the only alternative to the present rut and decadence being seen all over the country, a situation that has seen our country under perpetual retrogression and underdevelopment.
“The power to make change is in our own hands. We must deploy our strengths to ensure change is seen in our lifetime so that our unborn children are not subjected to severe hardship that the present generation is going through”, Olulade concluded.
