We Are Committed to Children’s Survival, Protection and Development’’ – Lola Akande

The Lagos State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Mrs. Lola Akande has reiterated the resolve of the Lagos State Government’s to promote the survival, protection and development of children in the State.

She made this assertion while addressing participants at a workshop/training programme organised by the Ministry for care givers and social workers of Children Living with Disability in the State.

According to her, the Ministry in its effort to discharge this vital responsibility has put in place in order to ensure that children in Lagos survive and protected and develop like their counterparts all over world.

Akande added that the “The administration of the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode is an all inclusive government and believes that people are the greatest asset in the society irrespective of their status. This is why the government created an Agency specifically for People Living with Disability in the State. This Workshop/Training further attests to the commitment of the government to capacity building of the citizenry including those living with disabilities.

“This programme is part of government’s effort through the Ministry to provide seasoned professionals who are not only expert in their vocations but also committed to impacting knowledge to parents, guardians and care givers for children and Wards under their care and have strong passion for seeing them grow to successful adult in spite of their challenges, as we all know that “Knowledge is power,” she said.

She expressed the hope that the information provided at the workshop would help stakeholders to determine the best approach in ascertain the needs and strategies to adopt in the care of their wards.

Dr. Yinka Akindayomi, CEO, Child Development Centre and former Consultant at the Ministry’s Ketu Special Children Centre (KSCC) said the programme would help in alleviating the medical, social and psychological hardships and suffering faced by children living with disability as well as their parents.
